Fun Noir for the Blackened Mirror – join the police investigation!

»Posted by on Nov 24, 2012 in Fun Noir, News | Comments Off on Fun Noir for the Blackened Mirror – join the police investigation!

There’s more fun noir associated with the latest episode of The Blackened Mirror with more puzzles and games. Remember those suspicious types who were after Quinn, Alais and Biggins in the Java Jive in Episode 2? Are they the same ones as the palookas who busted into to Quinn’s office (prior to Episode 5)?  Our new game gives you the chance to find out – and win prizes too! And there’s a special Bonus Prize too. What It’s About The police have had reports of a disturbance at the Java Jive, and they’re going to look into it. As they travel across Seraph City, they interview witnesses, who give them information about the suspects – and also give them clues about the next location. Unfortunately, through a bizarre carelessness, they manage to leave a copy of their reports behind in each location, where you can find and read them – either by exploring the locations in Second Life, or – on the web – by answering some questions 1) In Second Life Objective Find the police reports. Each of the reports is in a special file/book hidden in five key locations.  Your job is to travel around Seraph City, find the reports and bring them back to the police station. Once you are there, if you can enter a codeword in the special chest, you’ll gain a reward dear to the heart of any good police officer. Each report you find will contain one letter in the password – when you reach the police station, just click on the chest and give the correct password (the letters you discovered, arranged to form a word) and you will get your reward. And another reward is you get to read the reports – and find out more about the story! Prize A special treat for a good investigator! Hunt Object The black police report book (see illustration). How to start Well, as the start of the investigation is a fight in the Java Jive, that’s a good place to start your investigations (and find the first report)!  And the first report will point you to a second location … ~~~~~~~~~~~~ On the Web Objective To find copies of the police reports about the investigation into the suspicious men at the Java Jive. Prize A special movie poster for The Blackened Mirror What it’s about This is a game that fills in some of the background to the story. What happened in Seraph City once Quinn had left  so unexpectedly with Alais Alleyn and Mr Biggins? Now you can find out! What you need to do Start with these game instructions which finish with a question that – answered correctly – will lead you to the first police report – and interview with the owner of the Java Jive, Ceejay Writer. From there, questions on classic American detective fiction will lead your further into the investigation and more witness statements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bonus Prize This time, when you discover one report (either inworld or on the web), we’ll be asking you a special bonus question to win your chance to appear in the cast and background stories of The Blackened Mirror! Prize If you win the draw of all the correct answers sent in by December 4th 2012, you could win a chance to become a character in The Blackened Mirror! Villain or hero/ine, you will get to choose! What you need to do Send your answer to the question to info@theblackenedmirror.com.  All correct answers we receive by December 4thth 2012 will be entered in a special...

While waiting for the new episode of The Blackened Mirror – why not have fun in The Garden?

»Posted by on Nov 11, 2012 in Fun Noir, News | Comments Off on While waiting for the new episode of The Blackened Mirror – why not have fun in The Garden?

The new episode of The Blackened Mirror will be out next Friday (November 16th) but, in the meantime, if you are missing your fun noir, there’s an enthralling new game out in Second Life that we think aficionados of The Blackened Mirror might enjoy. It’s called The Garden Game, and it’s a clue-based puzzle that incorporates gathering, exploration, and logic. Your goal is to seek the seven Guardians and their Artifacts to collect clues and solve the current puzzle round by discovering which Guardian committed which Sin and what Penance they suffered for their actions. At the end of each round of play you can pick one (and only one) Guardian to forgive. The Garden itself is a mysterious location, full of whispers and secrets. Within its boundaries stand seven lost spirits, once charged with protecting and tending The Garden itself. Each of these fallen spirits committed a sin of betrayal against that they were bound to serve and each was sentenced to a penance for their transgression.  By discovering their fates, you can help lead the spirit Guardians toward Peace and Forgiveness. To play the game you will need to purchase a HUD (which costs 299 Lindens).  The HUD allows you to track and record your progress, and also allows you to play with – or against – another player. There’s also more information – and a video tutorial about the game – on The Garden website. The game has been created by Grace McDunnough, Trav Rexen and Salome Strangelove. If you want more information, Honour Macmillan and Inara Prey have both posted excellent reviews on their blogs....

»Posted by on Oct 21, 2012 in Fun Noir, News | Comments Off on More Fun Noir! Hear the special bonus radio play from The Blackened Mirror on the web!

Episode 1.4 of The Blackened Mirror won’t be out until next Friday – but we have more Fun Noir for the weekend. Now there’s a chance to hear Death in Velvet on the web! Death in Velvet is a radio play, broadcast in four parts, taken from a short story by David Abbot, the writer of The Blackened Mirror. It’s a Harland Quinn story, set in the noir environment of Seraph City, and it’s a taste of the classic detective fiction of the nineteen thirties. It comes with two special guest stars, Peter Jurasik, the well known American actor (Londo Mollari in Babylon 5, Sid the Snitch in Hill Street Blues) and Juliet Cesario (Belldandy in Oh! My Goddess). And, of course, it also stares Scott Simpson as Harland Quinn. You can read more about Scott’s other work as an actor here. Once again a dame walks into Quinn’s office … and this can mean only one thing – trouble! Death in Velvet – Part 1 You can hear Part 1 here … but if you want to hear Peter Jurasik in Part 2 – well, that’s where the Fun Noir starts with a little quiz, all about The Blackened Mirror. Episodes 3 and 4 of Death in Velvet will be available shortly. Watch this...

Peter Jurasik joins The Blackened Mirror for a one-off special radio play and party!

»Posted by on Oct 13, 2012 in Fun Noir, News | Comments Off on Peter Jurasik joins The Blackened Mirror for a one-off special radio play and party!

Peter Jurasik, the well known American actor (Londo Mollari in Babylon 5, Sid the Snitch in Hill Street Blues) will be making a special appearance in a special spin off of The Blackened Mirror virtual TV series, to be broadcast on Sunday 14th October 2012. Death in Velvet is a radio play, based on a short story by David Abbot, writer of The Blackened Mirror. It relates one of the adventures of Harland Quinn, Private Investigator (and the central character of The Blackened Mirror) , and is set in the dieselpunk location of Seraph City. Once again a dame walks into Quinn’s office … and this can mean only one thing – trouble! “I’m delighted that Peter has agreed to appear,” says Scott Simpson, who plays Harland Quinn. “Peter is an old friend. It’s quite amazing that technology has progressed to the point where we can work together again without actually living in the same city!”“ “I worked on a film years ago called Tron that was all about people exploring a virtual world,” says Peter Jurasik. “And now here is a series that is actually being created in a virtual world. Remarkable, when you think about it.” The radio play will be broadcast as part of a special celebration for Second Life fans of The Blackened Mirror. The event will be a party at the Java Jive – a popular club in Seraph City in Second Life. As well as music from popular DJ Victor Mornington, three instalments of the radio play will be broadcast during the course of the party, between 4pm – 6pm Pacific Standard Time. So – is that the whole story? Not quite, says Saffia Widdershins, the show’s producer. “The Blackened Mirror is more than a TV series or a web series,” she explains. “It can be accessed via a range of social media – and games are an important part of it. We call this ‘fun noir’. There’s a game for Death in Velvet too – you’ll hear Parts 1 to 3 … but the solution is in Part 4 – and we’re asking our listeners to guess what that solution is going to be!” Although Death in Velvet will first be broadcast inworld, there will be a chance for people to hear the show on the web too. But, once again, to hear the episodes, you will have to be prepared to join in the challenges. “There will be fun noir here too,” said Saffia. “Each episode will be on a hidden web page, and you will need to solve the clues to unlock the...

A new Second Life group means inworld Fun Noir for The Blackened Mirror

»Posted by on Oct 6, 2012 in Fun Noir, News | Comments Off on A new Second Life group means inworld Fun Noir for The Blackened Mirror

This week, we are launching out new inworld group in Second Life – Followers of The Blackened Mirror – and to celebrate, there’s a special mini-hunt, as well as a competition which will be just for group members! Why should I join the group? The group is designed for all those people who are following The Blackened Mirror show, the games and the hunts inworld.  It’s a place for discussing the show, sharing game and hunt clues and catching up on all the latest news! To launch the group, there’s our special hunt visiting some Blackened Mirror locations – and there’s also a special competition for group members – which asks you to turn photographer! So it’s well worth joining up! How do I join the group? You can search for Followers of the Blackened Mirror inworld. How do I find out about the group contest? Once you have joined the group, go to Info and then open Notices. You’ll see a notice called: Death in Velvet: Photo Contest – and you will find the instructions there!  Of course, you will need to have read the first three parts of the Harland Quinn story, Death in Velvet … but you can find details of how to do that here. Tell me about the Mini-Hunt! Well, this is a little different.  We are asking you to go on a hunt across the grid to explore some of the locations related to The Blackened Mirror. At each location, you will find a mushroom … and a clue for finding the next. There are little gifts in each mushroom too. This is just a short hunt for fun on the weekend – and you will be guided by that well known expert on mushrooms – Professor Agaricales. To get you started, this is what he says: “The *Agaricus Seraphim*is a small grey mushroom that grows in urban environments – especially ones where the primary fuel is diesel (this mushroom seems to relish the fumes).  It has a tendency to grow not in gardens, woodlands or even in the cracks of urban streets, but inside ill-tended offices, where wood meets mould and damp.  And possibly the remnants of gunpowder and whisky fumes...
